2017 WILL BE ANOTHER  EXCITING YEAR FOR THE BRITISH MINI BIKES CHAMPIONSHIP. LISTED BELOW ARE THE MAIN UPDATES / IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE 2017 SEASON

BETTER POLICING OF THE STOCK CLASSES

Unfortunately due to an internal reshuffle within the organising team in early 2016 we struggled to get a handle on the correct policing of the stock classes.

From March 2017 onwards a dedicated scrutineering team who’s sole role is to correctly police the stock classes. This will ensure as much as possible in a budget sport that everyone is adhering to the class rules.

We are upgrading the championship Dyno which is currently being refurbished and re-calibrated ready for the 2017 season. This will be made available along with the other necessary equipment to comprehensively check machines post race for compliance with their stated class rules. The Output and Compression levels will be detailed within the individual class rules once we have the dyno back from the manufacturers.

It is worth noting that the maximum output or compression levels set for a class is not a target that an engine can be tuned up to, as these are stock classes and tuning is PROHIBITED. The level set on the BMB dyno and its other equipment are purely tools to allow the scrutineers to easily check and police the classes for possible rule infringements.

The team will be employing a random testing approach with includes stripping as and when deemed required, ensuring all of the grid not just the front runners are subject to testing.

The ethos of our championship is to offer good value for money, cost effective, close racing. A fundamental part of this is making sure everyone is racing on as close as possible machinery.

After lengthy consultations and meetings with prominent riders and suppliers to the championship we have formulated the following rules and regulations for the championship and the classes within it.

LESS CLASSES & MORE TRACK TIME

We made the decision over winter 2016 to no longer run classes for Mini Motos during our Summer 2017 championship.

This will enable us to concentrate on our heavily supported Mini Bike classes and offer the best value for money track time we can over the entire event. This will also allow the day to run far more smoothly.

MORE ACCURATE TIMING SYSTEMS

During 2017 we will be investing in a Photocell Back up Timing System.

This piece of equipment works alongside the timing decoder and transponders to detect missed laps and issue a corrected lap time.

The photocell projects a beam across the start / finish line and detects the bikes as they cross. If the Transponder fails to register the Photocell warns timing control and enters the missed lap-time.

ENFORCED NOISE CONTROL.

We have had for some time now an exhuast noise emissions limit of 98db drive by and 105db static. However we have never enforced this.

All of the circuits we will be racing and testing at this year have noise emission limits in place and most are now enforcing them.

British Mini Bikes will now enforce these limits as part and parcel of our scrutineering and policing policies. We have to be proactive in this as so will all other championships etc otherwise we will lose the circuits to race on.

As of the Beginning of March 2017 we will be testing ALL bikes that take part in our events and they must be on or below the limits below:

  • 98db when tested track side  as they drive by.
  • 105db when measured in a static test conducted in pitlane with the equipment 1 mtr behind and at 45 deg to the exhaust pipe.
